A Review of iPage Web Hosting

iPage web hosting first rose to prominence in 2009, and then gained further popularity over the next couple of years — featuring regularly on many hosting review websites. iPage is managed and owned by EIG (Endurance International Group). EIG was founded over fifteen years ago, and its’ hosting company presently holds in excess of two million domains. Also, the group owns many other big hosting companies, such as FatCow, GoDaddy, HostMonster, BlueHost, PowWeb, JustHost, StartLogic, EasyCGI, VPS Link, Dot5 Hosting and more.

iPage web hosting does not offer a selection of shared hosting packages. Instead, it has a basic hosting plan with unlimited network bandwidth, disk space, databases and domains for all customers. Moreover, the company provides VPS (virtual private server) and dedicated plans, if you require a more extensive hosting solution for your business.

iPage does not provide month to month payment plans for shared hosting. You can register for either a three year, two year or one year period. The three year and two year prices work out at $1.68 monthly. Bear in mind that this is only the introductory price though. When you renew, you are charged at the standard price of $8.99 monthly for three years, $10.99 monthly for one year, and $9.99 monthly for two years.

Because iPage only offers a single shared hosting package, any other capabilities or features you want will cost you more. Certainly, the company offers a wide range of upsells to it’s’ customers. When you register, iPage tries to encourage you to purchase domain privacy for $9.99 (which conceals your WHOIS details). Therefore, if this is something you are not bothered about, deselect this option prior to clicking on submit. If you would like your website to have SSL enabled on it, you can purchase this at the introductory rate of $49.95, rather than $79.97. Another feature that is heavily promoted is automatic website backups, which costs $12.95 annually.

iPage customers are provided with a user friendly control panel. Everything is clearly laid out on a lengthy page, in different sections, so no tabbed interface is used. It is a simple matter to locate things by scrolling down, until you see the appropriate icon. As far as security features go, iPage offers email anti malware. Also, the .htaccess file can be defined, to limit server access (or access to different parts of a website) to specified users.

Similar to other hosting providers iPage includes Bing/Yahoo Sponsored Search, Facebook advertising and Google AdWords credits in their package. These credits are advantageous, because they enable you to buy advertising space on highly trafficked websites, to bring visitors to your website. Also, iPage gives you access to online marketing tutorials, and offers Google Webmaster Tools for easy website management. In addition, sixty days of membership to RatePoint’s Newsletter Manager, and a complimentary Yellowpages.com listing, is provided. iPage offers error and access logs, as well as monitors, which enable you to track how much disk space and bandwidth you are using.

For people who are just getting started and developing their first website, iPage web hosting is a reasonable option. The prices are affordable and the sign up process is straightforward. There are few, if any, hosting providers that offer comparable server performance and hosting features for the same price. The company permits its’ customers to stop their subscription at any point, and will refund them their outstanding fees. Therefore, many consider this hosting to be worth a try.
